About

A guide who has walked
the path — and knows what
it takes to cross.

Dennis R. Humphrey brings clinical depth, organizational experience, and a faith-integrated perspective to the most consequential moments in a leader's journey.

Background

Thirty-five years at the intersection of clinical insight and organizational leadership.

Dennis R. Humphrey grew up in rural Canada — comfortable across every register of business culture, from the boardroom to the shop floor. That range never left him. Today he brings the same quality of attention to a CEO navigating a succession question as to a business owner trying to name what's wrong with a team that looks functional but isn't.

His doctoral work at Trinity International University examined how institutional context shapes how people come to know and believe what they believe — a question that turns out to be directly relevant to every organizational culture challenge Threshold engages. Theory and practice, in his case, were never in separate rooms.

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (Illinois) and Licensed Professional Counselor (Wisconsin) with more than three decades of clinical practice, Dennis brings a diagnostic precision to leadership work that most business advisors simply don't have. He hears what's said. He notices what isn't. He asks the question that changes the conversation.

His Christian faith is not a product feature. It is the water he swims in — and it shows up as integrity, as care, as the willingness to say the honest thing when the comfortable thing would be easier. Clients who share that framework recognize it immediately. Those who don't experience it as something rarer: an advisor who genuinely means what he says.

Philosophy

Leadership isn't a skill set. It is an act of character — shaped by clarity, carried by people, and tested by what actually happens.

Most leadership development works on the outside — skills, frameworks, behaviors. Threshold works from the inside out. That's not a metaphor for soft content. It is a clinical observation: leaders who don't understand what drives them will eventually be driven by it in ways they didn't choose.

The combination of clinical training and organizational experience means Dennis can hold complexity that most advisors separate. The relational question and the strategic question are not different problems. They are the same problem with different symptoms.

"Most leaders don't lack strategy. They lack the clarity to know which strategy is actually theirs."

Dennis has worked with founders still in the building, CEOs navigating succession, owners who have outgrown their original model, and leaders sitting in the gap between where they are and where they sense they're called to be. In every case, the work begins not with a plan but with a question: what does this leader actually need to be able to cross?

That question is not rhetorical. It requires real listening, real observation, and the willingness to name what's present — even when it's uncomfortable. That is the guide's job. Not to carry the leader across, but to walk alongside until the crossing happens.

Threshold exists because isolated leaders make worse decisions, drift from purpose, and carry weight that was never meant to be carried alone. The advisory relationship is not a luxury. For the leaders who seek it, it is a structural necessity.
